How can I make sense of an alleged murderer being a hero?

I can’t imagine — being in the shoes
of a young man, not yet the age of
adulthood — pointing a killing
machine at people I have
never met, pulling the
cold metal trigger.
Can I do it?
Imagine?
To kill
them?
